Both animals had been shot dead and their carcasses dumped near the entrance to Grahams Grave Road in the Murrumbidgee Valley National Park outside of Yanco.
Police said a substance, which looked to be the blood of the kangaroos, was then used to write the words “clean this up” on the sign.
Griffith Local Area Command Chief Inspector John Wadsworth called on the community to assist with the investigation.
“It does appear to be an act of animal cruelty and we are asking anyone that may have any information, or was in the area at that time, to come forward,” he said.
“The substance on the sign did appear to be blood, but that hasn’t been confirmed. This incident has occurred sometime between Friday and Monday.”
Families regularly frequent the area, with the scene a confronting one for those that did witness it. Those with information should contact Leeton police or Crime Stoppers.
