As we sat and watched Australian Ninja Warrior, from the comfort of our lounge rooms while snacking on junk food, there was a brief moment where you could think ‘that looks easy enough.’
Most of the contenders glided through the course and came out the other side looking like they could run it again.
But even some of the strongest, fittest and most flexible of athletes were knocked off down and then we weren’t so quick to judge.
The Australian version of the popular American show got phenomenal ratings for its first night.
People love to watch others succeed, or perhaps fail, at obstacle courses, especially ones that require abnormal physical strength.
Most of the Riverina would have tuned in to see one of their own – acrobat Jack Morris.
The former Leeton boy, who now lives in Albury, was the first to run the course on air.
Unfortunately, Jack failed but he gave a mammoth effort.
It’s so easy to sit back and judge from home the efforts of those who put their bodies on the line for their craft or sport.
The Riverina is no stranger to fronting up a contestant or two for reality television shows.
We have produced contestants for Big Brother, Beauty and the Geek, The Bachelor, The Block, The Voice, Farmer Wants a Wife and Married at First Sight.
Very few of those shows require much talent or effort other than sitting on a couch complaining about your housemates or holding your hand out for a rose.
But what if Wagga could produce a contestant on Australian Ninja Warrior?
There seems to be some fit contenders coming from the MIA or border areas.
Surely, with the rise in the amount of gyms and Crossfit establishments in the city, there’s someone who’s fit enough and brave enough to take on the course.
It seems as though residents have had a shot at all the other reality shows, Australian Ninja Warrior appears to be the next likely option.
And while it would be good to see the city’s fittest fighting it out for the title, we want to see your every day competitor, just a regular Joe, put their hand up to have a go.
Do you think you’d have what it takes to run the course?
