A consortium of Wagga businessmen, including property valuer Chris Egan, intend to repurpose the old Riverina Woolcombing plant.
However, there is a big hurdle in front of the project: Council’s industrial zoning will need to be relaxed at the site to allow it to go ahead.
“We’ve had a generally positive response from tourism groups and councillors about it,” Mr Egan said.
“There’s no other venue like this in the country and we conservatively estimate this could bring $100 million to the city each year within five years.
“If we fail, it won’t cost the city a thing – we’ve got private investors putting in all the money – so there are really only positives for Wagga and the region.”
More than two thirds of Daily Advertiser poll respondents supported the proposed location.
