Despite trailing 1-0 at the break, the Wanderers were still confident they could knock off their third placed rivals.
They leveled things up in the 58th minute and started to push forward with confidence before losing winger Lachie Davis.
Both teams went down to 10 men after Davis and Mubarak Saeed were both handed red cards following some push and shove after an alleged “body slam” on Davis.
Wagga City couldn’t contain a quick counterattack as their rivals went back in front.
Schmid thought the team didn’t respond well after going behind for the second time.
“We dropped at little bit when we needed to lift,” Schmid said.
Nepean then scored with the last play of the game to seal the three points.
While he thought his team should have picked up at least one point, Schmid believes there is still plenty of good to build on.
“There is a lot of positives to take out of it as well,” he said.
“We were competitive for the full 90 minutes, played some really nice passages of play and the game was in the balance for the majority of it.
“We walk away feeling better than we have in recent defeats”
Davis will front the judiciary before the clash with University of NSW on Saturday.
