Armed with a spray bottle, bucket and brush, car detailer William Hort spends up to four hours scrubbing city walls, signs, downpipes and electricity boxes every week.
It may seem like an impossible campaign but Mr Hort said the city was worth looking after and worth appreciating.
“Every Sunday morning I get up and get into it,” Mr Hort said. “My family have been here a long time and we love this city very much.”
Supporting the efforts of Mr Hort and other city volunteers, state MP Daryl Maguire has called for stronger community service orders to combat the plague of vandalism across Wagga. He said the change would ensure those made to do community service were put to work to remove the graffiti.
“The standard we walk past is the standard we accept,” Mr Maguire said. “We want to increase the community service orders being carried out one day a fortnight to two days a week.”
Mr Maguire said Wagga authorities and city officials had also agreed to actively clean their infrastructure across coming months.
“Our city, sadly, is experiencing this,” Mr Maguire said. “Now we need council to do their bit too.”
