AFL Riverina have confirmed they received two separate citations from East Wagga-Kooringal regarding Hamilton in last Saturday’s Farrer League clash at Coleambally.
Hamilton, who coached Coleambally last year, returned from suspension for his first game of the year and has been cited by EWK for allegedly striking and headbutting two Hawks players.
Any ban could end Hamilton’s playing career given his career suspension tally of 14 games is just two shy of the national 16-game deregistration mark.
EWK allege Hamilton struck Joe Scott with a clenched fist to the face during the third quarter of the Hawks’ 19-point win.
They allege Hamilton also headbutted Jacob Tiernan, in the third term as well.
AFL Riverina football operations manager Shane Buchanan said the citations are being investigated.
“We’ll ask for statements to be provided by all parties and once that information comes in, it will be handed on to the investigating officer, who will determine if Josh Hamilton has a case to answer or not,” Buchanan said.
Both clubs, plus umpires, have been given until 5pm on Thursday to submit their statements.
Coleambally have the bye this weekend and any potential tribunal hearing will not be held until next week.
Hamilton was suspended for eight games for two separate striking charges in last year’s grand final against EWK.
