Cootamundra MP Katrina Hodgkinson said she had enormous respect for paramedics and applauded a “great community asset”.
Ms Hodgkinson’s words follow the concerns of paramedic union members across the Riverina, who, last week, said the blended staffing model – relying on volunteers and three full-time paramedics – was not good enough.
“I … acknowledge the community’s concerns,” Ms Hodgkinson said. “(But) the number of paramedics NSW Ambulance plans to station at the new Coolamon Station will be an increase – there are currently none.”
Ms Hodgkinson said the service had carefully considered the numbers needed to staff the station.
“NSW Ambulance has advised me that qualified volunteer ambulance officers will be rostered with a qualified paramedic,” she said. “The closest available rostered paramedic will be responded.”
