The Blacks had one of their best chances this season but remain winless after a 57-14 loss at home.

Steamers captain Richard Manion was pleased to come away with the win, especially after so many players also had to play second grade.

“We were like them a little bit with a lot of first graders playing second graders and both teams with doubling up,” Manion said. “We are pleased, had a few blokes back and it is always nice to come out here and have a win, particularly like that.”

Manion thought the set piece showed good improvement and that there was more confidence throughout the team.

“I thought we played as a team for probably the first time as we had nothing to lose I suppose,” he said.

“Everyone was playing for each other and enjoying it as I think we’ve struggled to enjoy our footy a little bit.”

Tim Carroll, Simon Clements and Jacob O’Riarin all crossed for doubles.
