On Friday, Wagga workplaces relaxed their rules to welcome employees’ canine companions on the job.
But Lucky, head-herder at Matt Whitley’s farm has been pulling early mornings on-the-clock since he was barely a year old.
Mr Whitley said you can tell the natural working ability of a dog from as young as four months.
The president of the Wagga Yard Dog Club, he’s been a breeder for 20 years.
He said dogs receive between 50 and 100 hours of training and the rest “they learn on the job, just like anyone else”.
Lucky works rounding up sheep every Thursday at Elders’ saleyard, as well as freelancing around the region.
