Catherine Pierce drafted a petition to return the building to its the original title, Wagga Base Hospital, after confusion left her stranded in February.
More than 3300 city residents have since signed the petition and Mrs Pierce said her hope was renewed last week, when her plight was put online, via change.org.
Mrs Pierce was visiting her sick husband during a freak storm in February when the hospital elevator she was travelling in stalled.
Mrs Pierce called for support and told the operator she was located in the Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital – a name the operator could not find.
The 72-year-old had taken to walking the streets of the city in the cold, knocking on doors to gather the backing needed to take her fight to parliament.
“I need 10,000 to have a debate but I’d like to get 40-50,000 at least,” Mrs Pierce said.
“I hope people are as anxious to sign it online as they are when I go door to door.”
She said the majority of city residents agreed the new title was “ridiculous”, was too long and took away from the history of the building.
“People just call it the hospital now,” Mrs pierce said. “It’s nameless.”
She said the building was named Wagga Base for the soldiers who came to it in 1938.
“A lot of good doctors have saved lives and worked hard there, people have gained life and lost it there,” Mrs Pierce said.
“What gives someone the right to change it?”
