Sacred Heart Cootamundra edged St Marys Young to take a 12-10 win in the boys final.
Sam Sharman’s goal kicking proved to be the difference in the end with two successful conversion attempts to St Marys’ one.
After captain James Paterson opened the scoring, only for St Marys to hit back right before half-time.
Sacred Heart went out by eight when Jack Muprhy scored off a pinpoint kick from Darcy O’Toole and while Young scored from dummy half on the next set, they couldn’t make any more inroads.
Co-coach Michael Nasser was “very proud” of the team’s performances.
It comes after around half the team claimed the Trent Barrett Shield last year.
Meanwhile, Young Public School went back-to-back in the leaguetag competition.
It looked as though the final with St Patrick’s Gundagai was going to go into golden point with the two teams locked in the dying moments.
However Young scored after the siren to take a dramatic 8-4 victory.
Emerson Hall took home the Rick Keast Medal for her efforts in the decider.
Steve Mortimer was thrilled to see so many children involved, particularly in the leaguetag.
“It is a great game and the wonderful is the leaguetag is attracting a lot of primary school girls,” Mortimer said.
“I was over there watching and they are just brilliant and was a real pleasure to watch.”
