The agreement was headlined by the removal of FWW’s ‘game time restriction’ rule, which dictated any player who had logged 45 minutes or more with the Wanderers could not compete with their local club in the same week.
The existing restriction had effectively forced the region’s best players to choose between the Wanderers and their local clubs.
This week’s decision was fuelled by a desire to provide the Wanderers senior side with some much-needed experience, while allowing some of its younger players to develop in the under 18 and under 20 leagues.
Wanderers director Brendan Flanagan said the responsibility of juggling clubs and managing playing time had now been shifted to the players and coaches.
“It’s going to be about applying some common sense,” Flanagan said.
“We obviously don’t want players or coaches to push it too far.”
The proposal put forward by Football Wagga and the Wanderers was accepted by all but one Pascoe Cup club.
It’s set to take effect this weekend.
