Four tonnes of flour is turned into bread and bread rolls every week at South Wagga Bakery.
While most retail customers see the bakery as their favourite place for a sausage roll and coffee there is a lot more happening behind the doors.
The family owned and operated bakery supply many pubs, clubs and cafes with bread rolls and cakes in Wagga and as far as an hour away.
If you’ve never been to the shop on Forsyth Street chances are you’ve still eaten something from the bakery, either a cake or something sweet from a cafe or the bread roll on a burger.
Two thirds of the business is dedicated to commercial production while the rest is retail.
Despite all the hard work put in, the team never expected to walk away with the Golden Crow Awards.
“Like many businesses we strive to be the best in what we do but we are chuffed with the honour of receiving the Golden Crow Award for 2017,” owner Lorraine Richter said.
The excitement of the win didn’t wear off quickly with Lorraine’s husband and co-owner Bob Malone seen parading the award around the store singing to customers in the week after winning.

Customers were just as excited with the win as the owners with flowers, cards, emails and phone calls flooding in since the win.
“We’re amazed and honoured that people would take the time out to congratulate us,” owner Frances Bruce said.
South Wagga Bakery has been providing Wagga with quality products for more than 18 years.
When they started there were three staff, today there are 34 and the store operates 24 hours a day to meet customer demands.
“Our business would not be so successful without our fantastic staff – without their dedication we would not be where we are today,” Lorraine said.
The business chamber has been there to support the business from the start.
“For small business in Wagga it’s a great tool to be a member,” Lorraine said.
“It’s an incredible information resource centre for business in Wagga for a small outlay. It also provides networking opportunities.
“The chamber exists to assist businesses.”
