Australia were left to lament a tight 10-17 defeat against hosts Canada in a thrilling semi-final that saw the hosts hold back a late Australian surge in front of their home crowd.
Batlow’s Sharni Williams scored the last try for the Pearls but it wasn’t enough to make it through to the finals.
The result leaves Canada and Australian deadlocked for second place in the world standings with one round in France next month remaining.
New Zealand, who defeated Canada 17-7 in the final, are 14 points clear and look certain number one.
