The Bulls scored 10 tries to two as fellow top five side Albury proved only average opposition.
Jake Dooley led the way, crossing for the first two tries on his way a personal best of five in the 44-10 victory at Harris Park on Sunday.
While he missed out on equalling Peter Little’s club record of six after being caught high by former Kangaroos teammate Trenten King when virtually over the line, Dooley was still pleased his day.
“I’ve never hit five before so it was good” Dooley said.
“It's pretty good, but with that team I just finished off their work.”
Dooley made the crosstown switch this season and has pleased by how things have been going.
“We seem to be really dominating teams and are just building,” Dooley said.
“There is a lot to improve as well.
“I'm happy as, the boys are really good and I’ve fitted in perfect.”
The Bulls are certainly happy to have him.
His five-try haul was enough to shoot him to the top of the Group Nine tryscorers list.
He’s now level with Kangaroos flyer Tristan Dickson and Gundagai centre Damian Willis with 10 tries each.
It’s not just his impact on the scoreboard, Dooley also turned provider for Mitch Bennett’s late try as the Bulls dominated from start to finish.
It was far from a perfect start for the premiers with early mistakes giving Albury plenty of opportunities to score, but the Thunder lacked creativity.
Dooley opened the scoring after minutes when Usaia O’Sullivan burst through some poor Thunder defence and found the 23-year-old backing up on his inside.
Six minutes later the fullback was in again after Southcity scored a repeat set after a nive kick from Kyle McCarthy.
Levi Freeman then gave away a penalty and the Bulls made the Thunder play when Jordan Shepherd crossed.
Rugby union convert Steve Tracey then blew a chance to give Southcity a 20-point lead in his first grade debut when he dropped the ball over the line then compounded his mistake with another lost ball while led to Rex Sargant’s try.
However Southcity took a 20-6 lead into the break when Dooley scored his second after a lovely short ball from Thomas Besgrove put Tim Hurst into plenty of space in the lead up.
O’Sullivan opened the scoring with a strong display early in the second half before two more tries to Dooley had the Bulls leading 34-6 with 18 minutes left.
Despite the lop sided score there was still plenty of spark in the contest.
Freeman and Nathan Rose were sin binned after going toe-for-toe after the play the ball, but overall the Thunder didn’t look like offering much of a challenge to the Bulls.
They're now in danger of slipping out of the five with Kangaroos and Junee breathing down their necks ahead of a clash with Gundagai.
