In April, the organisers lost their major sponsor and were then dealt the added blow of having a mobile phone, iPad and laptop computer stolen from a vehicle.
The major sponsor has proven the most significant blow, pulling out due to a conflict of interest, namely being the sponsor of another sporting event in the city around the same time.
"We had lined up some fantastic guests to provide entertainment across the weekend, including Master Illusionist Sam Powers, we now have to go back to the drawing board and see what we can realisitcally achieve," event organiser Brendon Meynell said.
"We (The Wagga Wagga Masters Games) have been working to a budget based on registered participants, and sponsorship income. Due to this we have looked at ways of making this event a break through event for the region - however losing this sponsor has meant we are required to go back to the drawing board and re-work budgets to see what we can achieve.”
The Masters Games will still go ahead on October 6-8 and Meynell is confident of a successful event.
“We have many sports that are filling up and almost at the point we are unable to take more participants,” he said.
“Things are looking up and we are expecting a very bright and vibrant event that will no doubt benefit the local Wagga community and the sporting associations who make up the event.”
