Got all my gear safely away by the transport this morning. After lunch I went by car to the Depot to return some serum and also took in a load of patients. Then I decided to make a big effort to get to the 18th Battalion, which I was told was about 5 Km out of Bailleul. I found them alright and saw Col. Murphy who told me of what happened when Morris was killed. I did not have long with him, however, as the Brigadier arrived and I had to clear out.
It’s extraordinary how difficult I have found it to locate this Battalion, and then when I did find it I had to leave before I had really learned anything that I did not know before. I then ran one of our chaps going on leave to Fletre and had no sooner got out of the town when Fritz came over and bombed it. We had a good concert at night, the first of our new concert party, and it was first rate, one of the visitors being General Hobbs.
