Have been too busy to add anything during the week. I have been by myself as the 3rd dispenser is away on leave and have been kept going all the time. Am now in A. Section. I decided to make the change, not knowing what the new man would turn out to be and it would give me control of spare instruments and all requisitioning, etc. The Colonel also sent on a strong recommendation for me to get the crown but do not expect anything to come of it.
We have had a little snow but the weather has changed again, and it is now quite mild, a rare thing at this time of the year. The huns have been putting up a great fight at Cambrai and have pushed us back a little. He evidently realises the seriousness of the position and is making extraordinary efforts to straighten out the line. Our 4th Division I believe has gone down and probably we also will have our turn as it appears that we are destined to be storming troops for a while. We are told that we are going for a spell near Boulogne, which will not come amiss although the march there will be some effort. I expect that we will be leaving at the end of the week.
My leave is now closer, my name being 7th on the list. During the week a couple of concert parties have visited the patients and given them a show. I saw one and it was first rate. On Thursday I had a trip to Fletre about 8 miles away, having to collect drugs. It was very cold sitting in front of the car, inside ‘tis beautifully warm now as they are heated by an arrangement of the exhaust and patients this winter will have a better time than last.
