At 16, it’s Connor Higgins’ goal to make the cut for the under 18’s state team.
He qualified for the under 15’s squad and just missed out.
“I’m hoping I make it this time,” he said.
“It would be nice to make it further, I want to try and make it as far as I can.”
Higgins will attend a training camp in mid-June, and if he continues to impress selectors, he will play in the All Schools Championship at Canberra in December.
He played in division two for Wagga at the under 18’s state championships.
The team lost all four pool games and the relegation final, meaning Wagga will play in division three next year.
Despite the results, Higgins enjoyed the tournament, and still managed to catch the eye of selectors.
In the Wagga hockey competition Higgins plays for the Royals.
Winless so far, Royals have been competitive.
“Yeah it’s a bit tough but we’ve stayed in every game,” he said.
“We’re going quite well, just not finishing off.”
Hockey’s been his passion from an early age.
“I love the community,” he said.
“It’s great.”
