The fourth-placed Kangaroos decided to go on a mid-season hunt for recruits and were successful in finally wooing Camp to Nixon Park after years of discussions.
Camp is best mates with three of Temora’s travelling recruits and decided on a mid-season switch after he found himself in reserve grade at Ainslie this year due to a player points system ‘situation’.
Camp, 22, spent time at North Eastern Australian Football League (NEAFL) level at Queanbeyan and Eastlake/Canberra Demons and will inject further polish into Temora’s midfield.
Camp is genuinely excited by what lies ahead.
“I’ve never played country footy before so I’m quite excited,” Camp said.
“I’ve seen a few games and have family down that way so I know the crowds are going to be good and that it’s tough football.
“To be honest, I’m excited to get stuck into it.”
The Kangaroos sit in fourth position on the Farrer League ladder and have lost just two games, to Marrar and Northern Jets.
Temora coach Jake Wooden intends to use Camp to bolster his team’s midfield.
“He’ll definitely have a big role for us in the midfield,” Wooden said.
“It was something we discussed heading into our double bye that if we could find another midfielder it would be really handy.
“You can see that anyone on their day can win so we wanted to try to get a hold of one or two more players to top up a bit. From all reports he’s pretty classy, he’s very smart and very skillful so he should help our chances.”
Temora vice-president Darryl Harpley was thrilled to finally welcome Camp to Temora.
“He’s super fit and a really good footballer,” Harpley said.
“We tried pretty hard to get him the last couple of years and wasn’t ready so we’re pretty happy to get him.”
Camp is best mates with Sam Jensen, Kieran Shea and Daniel Hespe, and is looking forward to lining up in Temora’s midfield alongside Jensen and Shea.
Camp is a Queanbeyan junior and played with the club until 2014, when the club backed out of the NEAFL. Wanting to stay at state league level, Camp crossed to Eastlake, who then formed Canberra Demons, for two seasons until taking a step back with Ainslie in AFL Canberra this year.
Camp will train with Temora for the first time on Thursday night, where he will meet the playing group and supporters before his first game against Barellan on Saturday week.
