THE disgraced former leader of a Riverina boys church group is sticking with previous guilty pleas and will admit to a fresh charge when he is arraigned in Wagga District Court next month.

There was speculation Victor Madeley, 81, would backflip on admissions of guilt to at least some of the 15 offences against boys aged under 16 between 1974 and 1979.
But his solicitor, David Barron, told Judge Phillip Mahony on Friday that his client adhered to the pleas he entered last December.
“There will be no application to traverse the pleas,” Mr Barron said.

Mr Barron told the court he did not expect the fresh charge would result in any delay in Madeley being sentenced.
He said there was a joint application with Crown Prosecutor Paul Kerr to adjourn the case to the next sittings of Wagga District Court, starting June 5, for the fresh indictment to be prepared and for facts to be finalised “so we can then move towards sentencing”.
Madeley accosted boys in a town – which cannot be named by court order – when he was a Church of England Boys’ Society leader.
His victims were members of the organisation.
Madeley has been in custody since December 2 when he entered his pleas.
