First-year representative coach Guy Orton was saved a few headaches at Thursday night’s final training run and selection meeting by the withdrawal of four players.
Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes ruckman Nathan Byrne did not get up, choosing instead to use the week off to recover from a rib injury.
Wagga Tigers captain-coach Shaun Campbell pulled out after picking up an ankle injury in their win over Narrandera last Saturday.
Campbell had hoped to play but the ankle did not recover in time.
Turvey Park assistant coach Truman Carroll withdrew with a calf injury, while exciting Leeton-Whitton teenager Tyh Evans was selected for Greater Western Sydney’s reserve grade team.
Orton is still happy with the team at his disposal.
“It’ still a pretty good team. We’ve got a lot of good players,” Orton said.
Jamie Maddox was again named Riverina League captain, while Wagga Tigers forward John Buchanan was promoted to vice-captain.
Narrandera recruit Reece Hutton was brought into the squad as an emergency.
