Royals White defeated Rosellas 3-2 at Jubilee Park on Saturday.
The loss, for Rosellas, was all the more frustrating when a controversial Royals goal was allowed.
A depleted Royals team was badly missing captain Emily Paul, Sarah Bonny and Natalie Rees, and were lucky to walk away with the win, as Rosellas gave it to the team leading the competition.
Roselllas’ Kira McBeath was in threatening form in the midfield with help from Carla Bailey, but Bron Harper and Vic Schiller held firm for Royals and keeper Georgia Hughes kept the defence together.
Meanwhile on Saturday, Royals Blue defeated CSU/Rivcoll 4-1.
Royals Blue ended any chance for CSU to make it two wins in a row.
Royals were lethal in the first half, with two goals to Ashleigh Yan, they were up 3-0 at half time.
In the second half, CSU improved and pushed the Royals, led by Elise Kinsey and Elspeth Beeson.
But Royals’ Maree Beresford and Lauren Jolliffe kept CSU in check while Clara Dobbie’s speed and skill continued to rival CSU’s defence.
Top-scorers to date
Bonny 7 (RW), Bronwyn Harper 6 (RW), Yan 5 (RB), Maddy Hall 4 (CSU), Elspeth Beeson 4 (CSU)
