Wagga United beat Cootamundra 4-3 at Rawlings Park on Friday night.
Down 3-0 at half time, Cootamundra fought back in the second half, but Wagga United were too far ahead, thanks to two goals scored by Chris Walker, and one each to captain Ryan McKenzie and James Stening.
“It was great to get the monkey off our back finally,” McKenzie said.
“Considering where we’re sitting, we knew we had to be that extra bit hungry.”
United wingers Ben Jones and Stening created space, and opportunities on goal.
Defender Adam Holmes won challenges in the air and helped them build towards goal.
McKenzie hopes to convert the win into a winning streak, as Wagga United plays Tumut, South Wagga and Junee in upcoming rounds.
