“They’ll be eating their words,” Co-director Andrew Hagan said.
“The films really push the boundaries.”
He said the 9pm screening was a celebration of original thinking and animation that you would not see on TV, and not usually at the movies.
“South Park’s got nothing (on these films),” Mr Hagan said.
“The (Late Night Bizarre) has every type of animation. The content can be very funny and very dark.”
Mr Hagan described the AIAF as a non-profit venture whose mission was to bring the world's best animation to Australian audiences.
“We’ve seen major Australian film festivals come and go, but the AIAF has become an important international mainstay of animation.”
The event started on Friday night and runs until Sunday, with the program catering for all ages.
