Kildare held Kooringal scoreless for more than half an hour, and goalless for the match, winning 19.19 (133) to 0.3 (3).
“I was really impressed with how they shared it around,” Kildare coach Peter Gaffney said.
“It would have been easy to bomb away and have a bit of fun, but we focused on getting things sorted and roles in place for down the track.
“I couldn’t have asked much more from them, we pride ourselves on defence, and they didn’t score a goal.”
Gaffney deliberated when it came time to picking standouts, it was a all-round team effort. There were no u-turns from Kildare players, who worked off one another to keep the ball in the attacking zone.
More than half of the team kicked a goal for Kildare.
Good passages by Kooringal were wasted, as Kildare players rushed to the ball in defence, and won the numbers game. But Kooringal coach Andrew Schmetzer said the boys, many from rugby league backgrounds, were not demoralised.
