Sutherland celebrated a career highlight when he cleaned up all six races at Carrathool in February, helping him to forge a runaway lead in the Southern District Racing Association trainers premiership for 2016-17.
And the success continued for Sutherland when he claimed the lucrative SDRA Trainers Bonus over the Wagga Cup Carnival.
Sutherland accumulated 39 points over the two days to win the $2500 prize, which was supported by Arlington Park Racing.
His triumph was aided by the win of Hangin’ With Willy on Wagga Cup Day, while Sir Ottavio’s placing at the Town Plate meeting was also beneficial.
“All of the horses raced well in tough company,” Sutherland said.
“The bonus is a great concept for local trainers and to win is the icing on the cake for the stable.”
Fellow Wagga horseman Chris Heywood was in the spotlight with Class Clown’s win and finished runner-up on 35 points.
Wagga trainers dominated the top 10 in the bonus.
The leading point-scorers were: 1. Trevor Sutherland 39; 2. Chris Heywood 35; 3. David Blundell 24; 4. Dave Heywood 23; 5. Gary Colvin 21; 6. Wayne Carroll 16; 7. Tim Donnelly 15; 8. Scott Spackman 12; 9. Kym Davison 11; 10. Ron Steiner 10
