Veronica Heald has been taking care of her three grandchildren for more than three years after extreme family issues saw the children arrive on her doorstep.
Mrs Heald joined more than 80 grandparents and their supporters on Friday, protesting for each carer case to be judged on individual circumstances and more freedom with her grandchildren.
“I missed my brothers 60th birthday in Perth because as carers we were blocked from going on a holiday,” Mrs Heald said.
“When we eventually got permission for a holiday we had to Skype our case worker every week.”
Mrs Heald said she hoped the protest would bring about change in the inequality of rights between grandparents raising grandchildren, foster carers and adoptive foster carers.
