The Estella man’s brave actions brought the blaze under control before firefighters arrived and extinguished it entirely.
A witness said the man admirably rushed towards the shed with a garden hose, removing the threat of the fire spreading to nearby properties.
“It was very selfless,” he said.
“It wasn’t a huge fire at first but it could have become one if he didn’t act.”
Wagga’s firies praised the initiative of the good Samaritan, but have issued a stern warning as winter looms and residents increasingly rely on heaters.
“In this instance he has reduced the potential damage to the property,” Turvey Park station commander Jeff Edwards said.
“That said, we encourage people to call 000 immediately and remove themselves from potentially dangerous situations.”
