On Anzac Day, The Daily Advertiser published comments by Pascoe Cup coach Chris Ayton, who urged Football Wagga to prioritise women. The story sparked an online debate about the reason behind the collapse of the representative team.
A number of readers suggested interest dwindled because coach Rod Buik did not have backing from players (some joined rival teams), furthermore arguing former Tolland women’s coach Sam Gray should have been appointed instead.
Buik has not answered calls from The Daily Advertiser since the plan fell apart.
