“I’d like to be in the grand final, that’s the way we’re heading,” South Wagga coach Marty Cutler said.
Souths sit in second place on the ladder, starting the season with two definitive wins, 3-1 over Leeton, 7-3 over Henwood Park and a 1-1 draw to Junee.
Beating premier Henwood Park was uplifting.
“A few of the girls came off emotional, some of them were crying,” Cutler said.
“Also Morgan (Purdie) who defected, scored a goal against them.”
Kaye Noonan has recovered from an injury that kept her sidelined for a year, and returned to the midfield, changing the squad’s dynamic.
Noonan has been working off one of the fittest players in the competition Biola Dawa, and Adol Makuei, a player who switched from Wagga United in the off-season.
Cutler’s been working with a more disciplined team.
“I’m very pleased with them,” he said.
“A lot of girls show up to training, I’ve noticed a lot more commitment, even on the field, too.”
South Wagga confronts competition leader Tolland on May 14, the team to beat according to Cutler. On Sunday they face Wagga United at the Showgrounds at 11am.
