Matong resident Bronwyn Camin said this year’s day of remembrance would be unforgettable as she would be attending the dawn service at Taji, north of Baghdad.
As part of the military operation, the Australian Army Sapper has helped deliver training to Iraqi security forces to help them in their fight against Daesh.
The multimedia technician said she used her design and IT skills to create study guides and documents.
“Anzac Day is going to be pretty special this year, serving with other Anzacs,” Sapper Camin said. “I’ve made some pretty awesome mates.”
Sapper Camin said her first operational deployment had been rewarding.
“I’m proud to say that I am the fourth generation of my family to have served Australia on operations,” she said. “My father was instrumental in my joining the Army – he inspired me and supported me.”
Having grown up near Kapooka – Home of the Soldier, Sapper Camin was inspired to join the Army and despite a number of obstacles, she achieved her dream in 2010.
The former Riverina resident said she was looking forward to her mid-year homecoming.
