Wagga residents overwhelmingly oppose the Commonwealth Bank’s “teller charge”.
More than 93 per cent of people polled said over-the-counter withdrawals should be free, after it was revealed one man was charged $32.50 in fees after he lost his bank card.
However, opinions were divided on social media, with some calling the fees a way of cutting back on staff while others said it was a sign of the times.
A Commonwealth Bank spokesman said just two per cent of transactions were taking place in a branch.
“We know customers increasingly want to bank with us at a time and place that is convenient for them,” the spokesman said.
“We offer free electronic transactions to all our customers and some accounts provide customers with some free assisted transactions each month.”
