Emergency services were called to Burley Griffin Way Street at Pucawan just after 8.30am to find the 50-year old trapped and entangled in the branches.
Wagga police said the man was chainsawing for firewood near Temora when the tree fell, trapping him underneath, fracturing his leg and impacting his head and chest.
While five NSW SES volunteers worked to rescue the man, paramedics treated his injuries.
An ambulance helicopter rushed the man to Wagga hospital after 9p, where doctors worked to stabilise him.
The 50-year-old man was airlifted to St George Hospital on Monday afternoon in a critical but stable condition.
