Wagga mother Skye Cruickshank was on the Sturt Highway about 2pm on Thursday when she heard a “sickening thud” and rushed to investigate.
Ms Cruickshank received the shock of her life when she discovered a 62-year-old man who had been struck by a truck.
He was lying motionless on the road.
She, and a group of bystanders, wrapped the victim in a blanket and moved him to a more comfortable position.
“I just wanted to keep him warm and covered from the rain,” she said.

“There were a few men already on the scene when I pulled up, but he was completely unresponsive.
“It’s just a horrible situation.”
The shaken onlooker said she didn’t spare a thought before rushing to the man’s side.
“If it were my family member I’d like to think a bystander would keep them warm and dry in the rain also, if they had blankets,” Ms Cruickshank said.
Emergency services airlifted the 62-year-old man from Wagga to the Canberra Hospital on Thursday in a critical condition.
Traffic was diverted through Forest Hill, along Elizabeth Avenue, Inglewood Road and Bakers Lane to rejoin the Sturt Highway at Gumly.
More than four police cars, two fire engines and three ambulances tended to the scene.
Police declined to comment on specific circumstances of the incident, but maintained investigations are ongoing.
“We’re reluctant to release details at this stage but enquiries into the matter will continue to be conducted,” Inspector Peter McLay said.
