“There is something about untimely death that leaves us scrambling for answers. I watched Bill on Sky at his book launch, and his unaffected delight when Barry Humphries stormed the podium and gave his thorough irreverent homage. There was something childlike, almost bashful in Bill’s delighted reaction, that seemed so real and alive, and yet two days later he is no longer here.”
My opinion is that will live forever, he was a true blue – the highest compliment an Aussie can give.

Out with the rubbish
CARS are beds. Wagga residents are spoilt with too much parking and so should be charged for the privilege.
If you live north of the river you are “inappropriate” and if you are a rural resident, don’t even think of driving into Wagga and trying to park near to where you need to do business.
A fair summary of the disastrous Integrated Transport Study – a $240,000 mess.
Where is the vision to progress Wagga for the next 100 years? Where is the detailed plan for the east-west bypass and the required major upgrade of our eastern gateway? What must visitors and investors think as they hop off a plane and go down Elizabeth Avenue or Inglewood Road?
This does not reflect a vibrant, progressive city.
What about fixing the Docker Street bottlenecks around the medical precinct – maybe an underpass?
Council also seems keen to give away public rail assets to an elite few.
Wagga could become the envy of regional cities with a light rail network using the current rail corridors.
Imagine a service through Uranquinty-Kapooka-Ashmont-hospital-Central and out to Bomen?
Then another line to the eastern industrial-Governor's Hill-Forest Hill-airport area.
This would truly transform Wagga.
As cars and trucks will remain part of the transport mix for a long time to come, we should send the report back stamped “not fit for purpose”.

Height of hypocrisy
JENNY Moxham and Diane Cornelius do not seem to know when a letter writer, me, is being facetious (DA, Letters, “Plants have feelings too”, March 9).
We know you two want to close down all farms in Australia and ban all fishing, including weekend fishing.
You mention so-called cruelty to animals, yet so far have not mentioned the atrocious cruelty caused to babies aborted by being viciously torn apart in the womb without pain relief.
Obviously animals mean more to Ms Moxham than human life in the womb; perhaps she hates babies?
Be consistent and logical please.

Who’s the real villain?
PRESIDENT Trump plans to restrict entry of immigrants from certain Muslim-majority countries.
In the countries which Mr. Trump has in mind, pre-teen children are used as soldiers and those at school learn to operate automatic weapons.
In the same countries, girls must cover up from head to foot, Western-style female attire being considered degrading. Or is that one something they’ve got right and we haven’t? With the West as decadent as at present, are we in any condition to criticise anybody about anything?
