Newcombe joined Wagga City after the Christmas break and is now looking to be part of a second Wagga cricket premiership in as many years.
However this time around, he’s looking to make his presence felt on the field.
Twelve months ago, Newcombe was preparing for 12th man duties as Lake Albert went on to taste grand final glory.
He started the season with the Bulls, but has found a new lease of life since joining the Cats.
The 30-year-old couldn’t be happier with how the switch has gone.
“There are better opportunities here, good coaching and I’ve been working a lot on my batting,” Newcombe said.
“They’ve given me a lot of confidence too.”
His game as flourishing as a result.
With the Bulls, Newcombe scored 21 runs and took three wickets in five matches.
However, since the move he’s scored 129 runs and taken nine wickets in six matches.
Newcombe thought having more confidence has been the key for a better second half of the season with the Cats.
“All my playing comes through confidence and they have given it back it me,” Newcombe said.
“I’m really happy I came here.
“All the boys have been really good and made my whole family feel welcome as well.”
No stranger to leg issues, Newcombe has been pleased with how his body has held up during the pointy end of the season.
After missing a spot in the grand final side last year, the 30-year-old can’t wait to get out onto Robertson Oval to take on South Wagga and play his role for the team.
“I’m pretty excited to play this one,” he said.
“I was a bit disappointed last year not to play so I’m really looking forward to it.”
“The boys made me feel like I was pretty much still in the team and is still a pretty good win for us so I celebrated like I played that’s for sure.”
