Killara Ninja steps up in grade as she looks to take out the Cootamundra Cup on Sunday.

The Damien McKelvie-trained mare is coming off a big win at Wagga, but faces a much tougher challenge in the $12,240 feature.

With the emergency drawn inside, Killara Ninja is set to start from barrier two.

McKelvie believes it should suit.

“She is good, drawn well, working good so hopefully she won’t go too bad,” McKelvie said. “Hopefully we get a bit of luck.”

Killara Ninja won by more than 12 metres last time out, but he expects a similiar test to her first up effort in the Junee Pacers Cup.

She finished third on that occasion, but is fitter heading into her fifth race this preparation.

“There is a quite big difference in class, but she has proven she can go alright against these sort of horses before,” McKelvie said.

“She is a fair bit better fitness wise than what she was at Junee.”
