Wagga City Council has advised that the Glenfield Road overpass is closed to traffic from Cheshire Street to the roundabout with the intersection of Urana Street and Glenfield Road.
Detours are in place via Urana Street and Dobney Avenue.
The overpass is expected to be closed to traffic for a number of hours and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
4pm: A 22-year-old woman is lucky to be alive after being hit by a train on Thursday afternoon.
The woman was taken to Wagga Rural Referral Hospital with head injuries and lacerations.
3.15pm: Motorists and pedestrians are being urged to avoid the Glenfield Road overpass after an incident at the site.
Police and emergency services are currently at the scene with unconfirmed reports a person has been hit by the XPT.
Traffic is been backed up in the area.
The XPT has stopped on the tracks.
