The shopping centre announced a $10,000 community campaign, Hometown Heroes, which will allow shoppers to contribute to one of three Wagga charities.
Shoppers will receive a token after making a purchase at the centre and can place it in a spinner to raise funds for Country Hope, Red Cross or the Women’s Health Centre.
Wagga’s Keith Withers visits the marketplace daily and was invited to join Thursday’s celebrations.
Mr Withers said he had more than one reason to feel at home, revealing his late mother was born in the spot where the steps of the marketplace now sit, back in 1915.
“I come to the marketplace everyday to have a coffee and meet up with friends. It has a great history.”
