Locals are preparing to host the 2017 Henty Art, Photography and Quilting Exhibition, which starts on April, 7 at 7pm and runs through until April 9.
The event will be held at the Henty Civic Centre and is already gaining plenty of momentum and gathering keen interest from those in the community.
Now in the sixth year the exhibition is known for attracting visitors and exhibits from far afield. In fact, it has received interest from as far south as Melbourne in the past.
Our aim is to be really diverse, we have something for everything from metal work to needle work.
- Kerrie Scholz
Kerrie Scholz is one of the organisers and she said the amount of exhibits from the local region was encouraging.
She took time out during art classes at Henty to talk to the Eastern Riverina Chronicle.
And it was evident from the classes that the Eastern Riverina possessed plenty of talented artists.
“Our aim is to be really diverse, we have something for everything from metal work to needle work,” she said.
And the inclusion for those who wished to participate in the vent was far reaching.
Local school pupils have already expressed their interest to provide exhibits and artists who have shown their works in the past signed up to display again.
“About 90 per cent of the exhibits come from the local area,” Mrs Scholz said.
“We are very proud of what this region produces, and we are proud of the visual displays,” she said.
“There is a huge depth of talent from this area.”
The theme for the event is “vintage” and there will be a display of four-generations of weeding gowns from one family.
The Lowrie family has offered to display the gowns to fit in with the vintage theme.
In addition to showcasing art work Mrs Scholz said the event also featured trade stalls and was known for serving excellent devonshire teas.
She said the market day was extremely popular and people travelled a long way to visit the event and see the trade stands.
Photographer Bernard Clark won the coveted “popular choice” award last year and says he will be back again with more exhibits in 2017. The event is supported by the Henty Community Club.
