Miss Elly May was able to lead all the way at Wagga’s Carnival Of Cups meeting earlier this month and once again draws well in the third heat of the Group One series.
Pleased with her effort to take down the boys on debut, Maguire expects another strong showing form the two-year-old filly.
“I won’t say she surprised me, but she went better than I expected,” Maguire said.
“I like her, she’s come along ok and I would have been happy enough if she got around a run a place as there looked to be a couple of handy ones in that field.”
Drawn in barrier three, Maguire is hoping to be able to find the front, however is wary of the gate speed shown by Roseculledglasses (barrier one) on debut before she tired late.
Maguire will also be taking on Wayne Sullivan’s Rockinfeelgood, who won at Leeton on debut before a fourth in a feature race at Melton, and David Kennedy’s Late Night Date.
The Euroley trainer also has Shes Sporty in the second heat after a win at Swan Hill on debut.
There are six heats for the fillies on Wednesday night, before the colts and geldings get their chance on Saturday ahead of the Group One finals on March 25.
