On Monday, Mr Dolden was recognised for his efforts with a community service award, marking the end of Wagga’s Seniors Festival.
“When we arrived in Wagga, I saw the rubbish and I simply decided when I settled that I would start to pick it up,” Mr Dolden said.
“It gives me something to do and when the roads are quiet and you listen to the birds it’s very relaxing.”
Mr Dolden said the community have always been behind his cause, giving him plenty of friendly toots and gifting him with fluorescent vests and gloves.
“It’s nice to be given a pat on the back but there are so many people out there who deserve recognition,” Mr Dolden said.
Vicki Bland received an award for her work with Care West and various other programs.
John Rumens was also awarded for his passion and community efforts in cleaning up Wagga.
