The Brethern were knocked out in the semi-finals of the West Wyalong Knockout by Southcity on Saturday.
However captain-coach Ben Black could see plenty of positives from the 12-6 loss plus earlier wins over Tullibigeal Lakes United and Temora.
“It was very pleasing was the season and I can’t wait to get the season under way,” Black said.
“I think it is going to be a close comp so you have to be on your toes and play good every week.”
New recruit Peter Little led the way, scoring two tries, but Black was also impressed with how the team defended.
“Obviously we have a few new recruits so it is going to be hard to gel in combinations but they’ve come in really well, have helped out and you can see there is a big improvement from last year with those new players.
“Things are looking up.”
