A greasy confrontation early Sunday morning ended in the hospitalisation of a 29-year-old man, following an alleged assault.
Police found the man unconscious near a Wagga kebab shop on Baylis Street shortly after 1am.
The victim was treated for “quite a serious head wound” and paramedics conveyed the man to hospital soon afterwards in a stable condition.
Wagga police commander Bob Noble said an investigation was underway following what was a violent conflict.
Two further customers – a 26-year-old man and a woman – were also treated for injuries sustained.
A crime scene was established overnight as police canvassed the area for information, with details mapped and recorded for forensic DNA testing.
“It was a bit of a wild show apparently,” Superintendent Noble said.
“This is a serious assault.”
Superintendent Noble said police were yet to speak with the three reported male suspects following the feud.
“Things got pretty wild – tables were thrown and all sorts,” he said.
“All three injured were customers and there was some serious property damage to the shop.”
Superintendent Noble said investigators were speaking with the victim on Sunday morning and hoped to piece together the missing details from the night.
“The victim was unable to speak until this morning – now that he’s in a satisfactory condition,” he said.
“It does appear alcohol was a factor in this case.”
Superintendent Noble said the incident was part of what was another busy Saturday for police officers.
“Saturday nights are usually pretty jam packed with calls, domestic violence issues and noise complaints,” he said.
“There’s always a few people out and about.”
As alcohol was a likely factor, Superintendent Noble encouraged anyone drinking to do so in moderation, to have a plan at the end of the night and to look out for each other.
