Miller won his 35-39 years age group (and placed 34^th overall) completing the 1.9km swim, 90km bike ride and 21.1km run at Geelong in less than four-and-a-half hours.

Miller will return to the local sprint circuit to chase a fourth straight win despite the short turnaround from last week’s mammoth effort in trying conditions. 

“It was a pretty tough day – it was really windy and cold,” Miller said. 

“The day started at about eight degrees and we got a bit of hail. But it was a good training day. The calves and everything pulled up a bit sore, you use a few different muscles in the wind and those conditions.”

The Wagga triathlete is building towards the Port Macquarie Ironman in May and said Geelong was all about gauging his preparation.

“It was good to get the win. It was good competition and that was why I went down there – to see where I was at, so I was pretty happy to get away with the win,” he said.

Miller has won the sprint events at Wagga, Ganmain and Temora so far this season and is looking forward to the challenge at The Rock, where reigning champion Caleb Noble is also engaged.

“It’s good to support the local events, so I’ll head out there,” Miller said. 

“Every single one you do, there’s more and more kids doing it. It’s great to see the sport really growing.”

Sunday’s main event gets underway at 9.15am, with a shorter juniors and ‘enticers’ race beginning at 8.45am and sub-juniors at 8.15am.

Online registrations are open until Saturday night. Registrations will be accepted on Sunday morning until half-an-hour before the event starts.
