A mention of the retired school teacher’s case in Wagga Local Court on Wednesday was the third time in a row fresh charges against him have been revealed in court.
The man cannot be named for legal reasons.
Originally facing five alleged offences at his first court appearance last October, another six charges were revealed in court on December 2 when he was refused bail the day after he was arrested for a second time.
And then another eight charges were mentioned during the man’s third court appearance on December 14.
The latest charge is assault male and commit act of indecency.
He currently faces eight counts of buggery, nine counts of assault male and commit act of indecency, two counts of indecent assault on male 14 or older and one count of assault with an act of indecency.
The charges cover alleged offences against seven boys at various times between 1965 and 1980.
The man is in custody but was not required to make an appearance in court when Director of Public Prosecutions solicitor Lisa Hanshaw and the man’s defence solicitor John Weir made a joint application for a six-week adjournment.
“It’s a very voluminous brief (of evidence),” Mrs Hanshaw said.
Mrs Hanshaw told magistrate Erin Kennedy the case would probably reach the stage of Mr Weir replying to the brief when the matter returns to court on April 5.
She said negotiations between prosecution and defence might be held between now and the next mention.
There was no application for bail.
