The ‘Border War’ has been organised by a group of medieval enthusiasts from across the region called the Society for Creative Anachronism, or SCA.
The event is about more than just play-fighting though, according to organiser Paul Willis, who said the group tried to recreate many aspects of medieval life.
“We research aspects of medieval life and then try to recreate them,” Mr Willis said.
“There will be people teaching heraldry, cooking and other arts.
“For the fighters, just like a kendo student might study The Art of War or The Book of Five Rings, we read old English, German and Italian fighting manuals and try to recreate those western martial arts techniques.”
