Southern Football League club Claremont have announced the signing of Grant, who will return home for family reasons.
Grant made a big impression in his year at the Crows, playing all 20 games and earning representative selection for the Riverina League.
He spent time in key posts both in attack and defence, as well as proving another versatile option in the ruck.
Grant had re-signed for this year with the Crows but coach Jade Hodge said the club was not going to stand in his way.
“Josh had re-signed but just for family reasons, he’s got a few things going on, he needed to head home,” Hodge said.
“We’ve still got a good relationship with Josh, the club tried to help him as much as they could but it’s just one of these things where he needed to be by his family’s side.”
Hodge said Grant would prove a big loss, but expects the Crows to be able to cover his departure.
“He’s a massive loss,” he said.
“Talls weren’t a drama for us last year though and we’ve picked up another couple so we’ve got the group to cover him, it’s just talent and ability wise he’ll be hard to replace.”
The Crows have not given up on their recruitment campaign, but are not reliant on any more inclusions.
Hodge is happy with how the pre-season is coming along.
“We’re shaping up pretty well,” he said.
“We’re really happy with the kids we’ve got coming through, especially the ones who got a bit of a taste last year.”
The club will play trials against Lockhart (March 18) and Eastlake (April 8).
