Winnings for the region’s richest road race, the Tolland Open, have been bumped up to $15,000 this year, attracting professional cyclists to the event set for March 4-5.

However, organisers fear cyclists across the region have been scared off by National Road Series cyclists.
By 5pm Wednesday, hours before entries closed, of the 110 registered, there were two Cootamundra cyclists, one Albury cyclist and one Griffith cyclist registered.
The Rock Classic winner Tolland’s Andrew Francis entered despite a strong field, including Ayden Toovey who returns to defend his title, and Canberra’s Stuart Shaw.
“Tolland Open, it’s pretty scary that one, there are a lot of NRS blokes, that’ll be tough, but I’m looking forward to it,” Francis said.
